What is it?
Grey Mullet is an oily fish very similar to bass. hey have a dark silvery skin at the back fading to silver on the belly and covered with a generous jacket of scales.
Preparation Options
You can have this fish whole or in fillets. If it is whole it will need to be scaled and gutted, you can leave the head on or have it taken off. You get two fillets off each side these will contain a few pin bones.
Is it sustainable?
Our grey mullet are line caught and come from Looe. They are slow-growing, slow to mature sexually and only a proportion of the stock breeds in any one year. Little information is available on abundance due to lack of scientific data.
